Introducing Grains Pads, our first cross platform release!

We’re proud to announce our first ever dual platform release, Grains Pads for MainStage 3 and Nord keyboards.

This pack is our first attempt at releasing a pack that uses granular synthesis. Granular synthesis works by playing back tiny bits of audio in unusual way (for the nerds out there, you can read more here).

How We Built it

Since granular synthesis can be unpredictable at best, it took longer than usual to create this pack. We experimented with hundreds of sound sources before finding the ones that works the best.

It took over a month of messing with various sample sources to get something useful and interesting, and the final results are otherworldly. Everything from simple vox pads to chopped up old horror film sound tracks make this library range from sublime to chaotic.

Not Just For Nord Stage 3 and MainStage

Unlike other keyboard patches we’ve offered in the past, Grains has the ability to work instantly with over 13 Nord keyboards (see above for the full list). We also have 20 presets specifically designed for the Nord Stage 3, but the samples included will easily load into any supported Nord keyboard. Here’s a list of supported Nord keyboards:

For the MainStage version, all patches are fully importable to Logic X. It’s easy to switch from live performance to recording in the studio!

What are the differences?

Nord keyboards don’t offer granular synthesis, so all of the patches built for Nord are samples. Also, MainStage 3 and Nord’s FX are obviously different, which means the end product will sound different from each other.
