The Korg Poly-800 Analog Synth, beautifully sampled for Nord keyboards.
Joining the M-1, J-6, and O-6 synth packs, the P-8 synth pack adds another chapter. At one of the least expensive 8 voice analog polysynths of the 80’s, the Korg Poly-800 was a staple with gigging and studio musicians alike. The Korg Poly-800 was eventually used by many of the 80’s biggest names in music, including Depeche Mode, Geoff Downes, Goldfrapp, Orbital, Nick Rhodes, Sneaker Pimps, Jimi Tenor, and Vangelis.
The Process
The story starts with a friend texting me on a lazy Sunday afternoon. His neighbor had some keyboards in the basement he was getting rid of, would I like to take a look? I hurried over.
Sitting on a pile of piano moving blankets was the Korg Poly-800. I dusted it off, made an offer, and took it home. After having a keyboard tech do a comprehensive overhaul of its internals, it came home with me and found a spot on my keyboard rack. The next year I messed around with it in the studio, exploring and finding the things I liked most about it, and finally creating a pack that highlights the best and quirkiest parts of this little synthesizer.
